"4 play (2 New) at BP, Mole-Capan 1-Setter at RP, 4 play at C.G.!":
There were three official sessions of GTA Sunday Tennis even though the usual morning session hosted by "Hollywood" Frank Samara had to be cancelled due to heavy rain in the morning hours. The first one was at the Brookdale Park Courts in Bloomfield and it featured a Women's Doubles Match that served to bring two new players into the league (with "The Marathon Woman" Doinks Srinivasan reporting); the second one was at the Rose Park Courts in Woodland Park and it featured a "Battle of The Sexes" Singles One-Setter between "Del Brotro" Mike Mole and "The S Bomber" Genalin Capan (with Gen reporting); and the third and final one was at the Cedar Grove Courts (with GTA Champion: "King Crush" Chris Chiaro reporting).
The Brookdale Park Courts Result:
2 out of 3 Sets Women's Doubles Match:
Doinks Srinivasan/Megan Reed over Fernanda Toker/Atsumi Komatsuzaki, 6-4, 6-1, as both teams entered the Women's Doubles Division as the New # 12 and # 13 Ranked Teams respectively! It was the official GTA Debut of both Megan Reed and Atsumi Komatsuzaki. No Aces.
The Details from Doinks: I have been playing in a Women's Doubles Tournament run by Robbin Miller. In this match, we played Fernanda and her partner, Atsumi. Atsumi lives in Montclair and will be a great addition to the league. She has great forehand ground-strokes and won some good points at the net. Everyone agreed to report the result so she can start getting emails. We played at Brookdale Park at 6:30pm. Fortunately we didn't have to pay anything as nobody was there to collect fees.
Samara's Notes: I thank Doinks for her very timely reporting. And I welcome both Megan and Atsumi to the league. Fernanda speaks very highly of Atsumi. On another note, others have told me that the guy who collects the fees at Brookdale often leaves by 8:30pm weeknights. And that the fee (when it needs to be paid) is usually good for more than one hour of play…provided no one is waiting for your court.
We now head north to Woodland Park for the next result.
The Rose Park Courts Result:
Mike Mole over Genalin Capan, 6-3! Mike: 1 Ace!
Gen's Notes: Mike and I first met up at Albion Park in Clifton around 7pm, but all the courts were taken. Mike suggested we play at the Rose Park Courts instead. We hit for 25 minutes and then played a One-Setter. Mike was broken and I held to go up 2-0. He got the break back and held for 2-2. Then we exchanged breaks for 3-3. Mike then took next three games for the win. We played this one from 7:48 to 8:20.
