6/3 Results.

6/3/18:

"Rizzo hosts 4 at NTC, Mole-Kumar part of 13 (1 New) at C.G.!":

There were two official sessions of GTA Sunday Tennis, but not the usual morning one hosted by "Hollywood" Frank Samara as, once again, we had a Sunday that got off to a rainy start.  The last time Samara hosted such a session was the last Sunday in April!

Anyway, "The Riz" John Rizzo hosted some Doubles action at Nutley Tennis Club.  Then, there was an extended session at the Cedar Grove Courts that featured a Challenge Match between "Del Brotro" Mike Mole and "The Webmaster" Senthil Kumar (with Mike reporting).  Other contributors to this report from that session are "The Icon" Nick Inciong and "The K Man" Kris Srinivasan.

First, we will get The Riz Report from NTC.  Then, we will gather all the results from Cedar Grove.

The NTC Results:

2 out of 3 Sets Doubles Championship Match:

Ryan Pienciak/Nick Caputo over Paul Daddio/John Rizzo, 6-1, 6-2, to complete their second successful GTA Doubles Championship defense of their first reign!  No Aces.

Samara's Notes: Now that Pienciak/Caputo got past the GTA Doubles Championship Rematch with Former Champs: Marijus Kuzavas/Mike Kazlauskas, they are free to defend their Titles against any team ranked in the Doubles Division (even though Nathan Fernandes is set to get the next shot at the Champs with a partner of his choosing).  Still, the bottom line is that the Daddio/Rizzo team was already ranked in the Doubles Division coming into this match.  Thus, the match stands as an official defense of the Titles.

Ryan Pienciak/Paul Daddio over Nick Caputo/John Rizzo, 6-3!  No Aces.

2 out of 3 Sets Doubles Match:

Ryan Pienciak/Adam Pienciak over Nick Caputo/John Rizzo, 7-5, 7-6 (7-2), to become the New #9 Ranked Team in the Doubles Division!

Samara's Notes: I thank John for his timely reporting of those results.  We now head west to Cedar Grove where we will start with the report from Nick as the action he was involve in took place prior to the Mole-Kumar match.  Then we will go to Mike's report of that match and then gather the rest of the scores from Kris.

The Cedar Grove Results:

We started around 4pm.

Nick Inciong/Jonathan La over Jose Gonzales/Tom La, 6-3!  No Aces.

We then started another set, but it started to sprinkle so we all left.  Janice Wang was there just hitting with Kyle Eng.  And Scott Bergenfeld was hitting with an older gentleman.

2 out of 3 Sets Challenge Match:

Mike Mole over Senthil Kumar, 5-7, 6-2, 6-3, to successfully defend his # 9 Rank in the Advanced Division!  No Aces.

The Mole Memo: We played from 6:30 to 8pm.  Tough match as Senthil was getting a lot of shots, making me hit a lot of extra shots in return.  I was leading 5-2 in the 1st Set, but Senthil came back (winning five straight games) to take it.  Great work on his part...fun match!

3 out of 5 Sets Mixed Doubles Match:

Syed Rashid/Arlene Hyde over Kris Srinivasan/Dawn Howes, 6-1, 6-2, 6-0 as both teams entered the Mixed Doubles Division as the New # 34 and # 35 Ranked Teams respectively!  Syed: 3 Aces on Dawn; and Arlene: 1 Ace on Dawn!  It was the official GTA Debut of Dawn Howes.

Senthil Kumar/Pranav Sinha over Dino Celis/Kris Srinivasan, 6-4!  No Aces.

Kris Srinivasan/Pranav Sinha over Senthil Kumar/Doinks Srinivasan, 7-5!  Kris: 1 Ace on Senthil!

Samara's Notes: I thank everyone for their very timely reporting.  It is truly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Frank Samara
