5/7/16:
GTA Saturday Tennis took place at The Cedar Grove Courts (hosted by "Papa K" Kris Srinivasan and featuring the GTA Women's Championship Tournament Round of 16 Match between "Spicy" Sally Pillay and "Bravo" Brenda Jordan…both sent in their result as well). Morning rains later gave way to dry and brighter (if not outright sunny) conditions.
So we will now go to the report from Kris with commentary from Sally and Brenda on their match, too.
The Cedar Grove Results:
GTA Women's Championship Tournament Round of 16 Match:
Sally Pillay over Brenda Jordan, 7-5, 6-2, to successfully defend her # 8 Rank in the Women's Division while also advancing to the Quarterfinals of the GTA Women's Championship Tournament! No Aces (apparently).
Some Spicy Dish: Brenda fought hard and never gave up. There were lots of Deuce games. The 1st Set was close as I was up 4-2, Brenda fought to tie it 4-4 and then we held to 5-5 until I got the break to close it out. She was great and just fell short. It was a great match.
The Bravo Brief: She played great and was very consistent. I made a lot of mistakes and was extremely tired, playing Singles for the first time in a quite a while. It was fun though, and I'm glad I participated in the tournament.
The Say from Papa K: The fiesta to happen was The Women's Championship Tourney Round of 16 Match between Sally and Brenda. It was a great match with amazing rallies, it was well contested.
Samara's Notes: I thank both Sally and Brenda for sending in their score directly and congratulate Sally on her hard-fought victory. The rest of this report belongs to Kris.
Kris Srinivasan/Jane Fan over Doinks Srinivasan/Natalia Sout, 6-4! No Aces.
Doinks Srinivasan/Natalia Sout over Kris Srinivasan/Jane Fan, 6-2! No Aces.
2 out of 3 Sets:
Omar Santos/Dave Zhu over Kris Srinivasan/Jane Fan, 7-5, 6-4! No Aces.
Marijus Kuzavas played a Singles One-Setter with Mike Kazlauskas. I am not aware of the score.
Samara's Notes: Neither sent in that score. Now we go back to Kris.
Earlier, Dave Zhu got to play a Singles Match against Andrew Truong but they never got to complete it. Down 1-4, Dave did well to tie the match at 4-All. Andrew broke the strings when they were at 5-All.
We did see The Dwights (Dwight Thomas, Sr. and Jr.) come as we were winding up. They got to hit with Herb Reiner.
Samara's Notes: As always, I thank Kris for hosting GTA Tennis up at Cedar Grove and also for providing us with that report.
Sincerely,
Frank Samara
