5/14

Youth movement at C.G., Kaz-Bernard (x2) at RHP!”:

GTA Saturday Tennis took place at two locations: The Cedar Grove Courts (with both “Holy Moly” Mike Mole and “Momma Chris” Christine Corso sending in scores from there) and Robin Hood Park in Clifton (featuring two full 2 out of 3 Sets Challenge Matches between “Big Kaz” Mike Kazlauskas and “Big Returns” Ralph Bernard, with Ralph sending in those scores).
We will first go to the score sent in by Mole, then the report from Mrs. Corso and then the two results from Ralph.
The Cedar Grove Results:
Andrew Truong over Mike Mole, 7-5!  No Aces.
Samara’s Notes: I thank Mike for sending in that result.  Andrew sent out an Open Challenge e-mail looking for anyone willing to play him in Cedar Grove early in the morning and Mike was the one to answer the call.
We now go to the report from Momma Chris.
My son Peter and his buddy Matias Dioses hit the courts pretty early today, arriving at 9am and were just leaving at 1pm. They are both on the Cedar Grove High School Varsity Team now (Peter is second Singles and Matias is one half of the first Doubles team). They hit a lot together and played two sets with Peter victorious (neither will disclose the score, but I’ll try to get it to you).
Samara’s Notes: Since I still do not have the score at the time of writing this, it will have to remain as unofficial (as I suspect the young lads wanted to keep it that way anyway).  It is unfortunate as it would have put both of them into our Intermediate Division.  Now back to Chris.

They then teamed up against Mike Laneve Jr. (their third Singles teammate) and his dad (think it is Mike Laneve Sr.).
2 out of 3 Sets Doubles Match:
Peter Corso/Matias Dioses over Mike Laneve Sr./Mike Laneve Jr., 6-1, 6-1, as both teams entered the Doubles Division as the New # 29 and # 30 Ranked Teams respectively!  No Aces (apparently).  It was the official GTA Return of both Matias Dioses and Mike Laneve Jr. and it was the official GTA Debut of Mike Laneve Sr.

I will try to get a more complete report from the boys, but I wanted to get them on the record as they are now considered adult members of GTA and I'm sure will prove to be contenders! We’ll try to get the Laneve men into the GTA either singly or as a team.
Samara’s Notes: Well, as stated above…they are all in the GTA now.  On the Singles side, just in the Non-Competing Men’s Division (until they play full 2 out of 3 Sets Singles Matches).  But on the Doubles side, they did enough to get into the Doubles Division.
We now head to RHP for two consequential results as sent in by Mr. Bernard.
The RHP Results:
2 out of 3 Sets Challenge Match:
Ralph Bernard over Mike Kazlauskas, 6-2, 6-3, to become the New # 12 Ranked Player in the Advanced Division!  No Aces (apparently).
Samara’s Notes: Ralph said they started the session around 11am.  Since Mike was one of the “bridge players” in both divisions (Advanced and Intermediate), this victory put Bernard directly into the “A” Division.  The two of them then decided to play a rematch.
2 out of 3 Sets Challenge Rematch:
Mike Kazlauskas over Ralph Bernard, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5), to become the New # 12 Ranked Player in the Advanced Division!  No Aces (apparently).
Samara’s Notes: And just like that, Mike regained his rank.  I congratulate both of them on their victories.  Also, just like that, I have now fallen to an all-time low of being ranked # 16 in the Advanced Division.  Oh well…guess I’m going to have to get used to the fact that as my age increases, so will the number of my rank (and not in a positive manner…LOL!).  I thank Ralph for sending in those scores.
Sincerely,
Frank Samara
