7/15 Results.

7/15/17:

"3 play at PAC, 2 play at NTC, Boughton-Wang part of 14 at C.G.!":

GTA Saturday Tennis took place at three locations: morning and evening sessions at The Park Ave. Courts in Nutley as "Richie" Rich Liu first played his Doubles partner Edgar "Valentino" Valencia and later played his buddy "Kaptain" Keith Lewkowitz, Nutley Tennis Club as "The Riz" John Rizzo faced off against "Magic" Mike Mole in a couple of One-Setters and at The Cedar Grove Courts as "Laidback" Laurie Boughton and "J-Wow" Janice Wang got together earlier in the evening for their GAH7 Round of 10 Match and later in the night we had usual host "The K Man" Kris Srinivasan run the session there.

So we will first go to the recap from Rich of both Park Ave. sessions, then we stay in Nutley but go to NTC for the scores from John and then we get the result from Janice before turning the balance of this report over to Kris.

I played Ed Valencia a full match in the morning.

Samara's Notes: Since Rich Liu is still in the active draw of the Grove Cup XX Tournament, he cannot accept outside full 2 out of 3 Sets Challenge Matches.  So, unfortunately, we will have to break this one down into two One-Setters.  We now go back to Rich.

The Park Ave. Results:

Rich Liu over Edgar Valencia, 6-3!  Edgar: 2 Aces; and Rich: 1 Ace.

Rich Liu over Edgar Valencia, 6-3!  No Aces.

The Liu Lowdown: We started around 11am in the hot sun.  Ed was money whenever he made his awesome first serve.  But I was able to finally prevail versus my doubles partner in a Singles Match (would have been).  It was a very competitive match and I was able to make some points from his backhand, after much practice.

In the evening, I played another match…this time against Kaptain Keith.

Samara's Notes: We are going to make an exception to the rule for this next one and here's why – Liu won it (so it doesn't impact the Grove Cup draw anyway) and it enables Lewkowitz to get out of the Non-Competing Men's Division and into the Intermediate Division.  We now go back to Rich.

2 out of 3 Sets Challenge Match:

Rich Liu over Keith Lewkowitz, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, to successfully defend his # 42 Rank in the Intermediate Division!  In the process, Lewkowitz enters the division as the New # 49 Ranked Player.  Keith: 2 Aces; and Rich: 1 Ace!

The Liu Lowdown: It was a battle of Wilson Pro-Staff 97 rackets.  Rich was testing out the Wilson Pro-Staff RF97 and liked it.  Keith was sporting his Wilson Pro-Staff RF autographed edition, with Roger Federer's picture and autograph on it.  Keith gave away the 3rd Set as he was hungry and we went to eat afterwards.  We look forward to playing versus other GTA guys.

Samara's Notes: Sorry to deny Rich his first-ever full match win over Edgar (though, in their own personal friendly rivalry…they can count it whichever way they like), but I'm also glad to bend the rules a bit in order to help Keith make the move out of the NCMD and into the I-M Division.  The Kaptain and Liu Crew continue to make their presence felt in the GTA.

We now remain in Nutley, but head over to NTC for the scores from The Riz.

The NTC Results:

Mike Mole over John Rizzo, 6-4!  No Aces.

Mike Mole over John Rizzo, 7-5!  No Aces.

Samara's Notes: I thank John for submitting these scores in a very timely manner.  We now go to Janice for the result of her match from Laurie.

The Cedar Grove Results:

GAH7 Round of 10 Match:

Janice Wang over Laurie Boughton, 6-1, 7-5, to become the New # 13 Ranked Player in the Women's Division while advancing to the Quarterfinals of the 7th Annual Gail-ann Hamilton Memorial Women's Singles Tournament!  No Aces.

Samara's Notes: I thank Janice for her timely reporting of that result.  She said they started around 5pm.  "The Adonis" Don Moya was there.  Then she said that "Sadistic" Syed Rashid and "Magic" Mike Mole arrived and played on the next court.

We now turn this report over to Kris for the rest of the results from Cedar Grove.

Nathan Fernandes/Natalia Sout over Kris Srinivasan/Mike Mole, 6-4!  No Aces.

Mike Mole over Tony Shiao, 6-4!  No Aces.

Tony Shiao/Ryan Pienciak over Kris Srinivasan/Mike Mole, 7-6 (7-2)!  Ryan: 1 Ace on Kris!

2 out of 3 Sets Doubles Match:

Jose Gonzales/Dave Zhu over Jordan Bachvaroff/Andrew Truong, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, as both teams entered the Doubles Division as the New # 57 and # 58 Ranked Teams respectively!  No Aces (apparently).

Kris Srinivasan/Ryan Pienciak over Dan Martinelli/Tito Castolo, 6-0!  No Aces.

Dan Martinelli/Tito Castolo tied with Kris Srinivasan/Ryan Pienciak, 5-5 (Incomplete when the lights went off at 10pm)!  No Aces.

Tony Shiao leading Andrew Truong, 5-3 (Incomplete when the lights went off at 10pm)!  No Aces.

Samara's Notes: Thanks to Kris for all he does for the GTA up at Cedar Grove.

Sincerely,

Frank Samara
