7/10/17:
"Kris/Spin host 16 at C.G.!":
GTA Monday Night Tennis only took place at The Cedar Grove Courts as "The K Man" Kris Srinivasan acted as host, but then late arrival "Spin Doctor" Dan Martinelli also did some reporting.
So first we will hear from Kris and then we will let Spin close out this report.
What looked to be a promising evening of GTA Tennis indeed motivated a whole lot of our players. With people reporting heavy rains in Wayne and other places, it appeared that Cedar Grove would once again dodge the bullet as even the sun was out to cheer on our players. Just like Friday, the 8 o'clock hour changed the situation with the rain making its decisive invasion. This would leave plenty of players with no games under their belt for the evening.
The Cedar Grove Results:
Nathan Fernandes/Jose Gonzales over Jordan Bachvaroff/Mike Mole, 6-2! No Aces.
This was probably the first match of the evening or at least one that saw its proper conclusion.
William Bobilla/Fred Suba over Sairaj Srinivasan/Jorge Solano, 9-7! No Aces.
This was the best match of the night. Full credit goes to Jorge and Sairaj for making a fight of this match against two solid doubles players. Tied at 6-6, they chose to do it Wimbledon style. If they had played a regular Tiebreak, it might have given other players on the bench a chance to start 10 minutes earlier.
Nate, T.J. Shah, Marijus Kuzavas and Sally Pillay would take up this Court 3, but I am not aware of the score…if at all they got started. The rains brought an abrupt end, indeed!
M2 Quarterfinal Match:
Dennis Cabanatan/Tom La tied with Nick Inciong and Ryan Pienciak, 3-3 (Interrupted by the rain)!
This Men's Doubles Tournament match started somewhat late around 7:40 and will have to be rescheduled. The even scores indicate a close and enthralling match is in the cards.
Samara's Notes: From the notes above provided by Kris, I'm not sure if both teams intend to continue from where they are at here…or if they will start anew the next time they meet. We now go back to Kris.
Chris Chiaro/Kris Srinivasan over Joe Rodrigues/Jose Gonzales, 6-2! No Aces.
Chris was back to his swashbuckling self and looked ominous with his attacking shots. He took the attack to a totally different level and this set should boost his confidence.
The Dwights had come just before the conclusion of our match. We got them in only to see the rains give them a quick goodbye...:-).
Jordan Bachvaroff leading Mike Mole, 5-3 (Interrupted by the rain)!
The reason for this Singles action was that when we had just 7 players, we split things up for Doubles and Singles with Nate sitting out as he had just played a set. We should have had the Singles in the beginning stages as then the players started coming. Spin came in to see all courts occupied and never got a chance to play. It was the same for Doinks.
The session was short, but brisk with action with all four courts at our disposal. Cheers!
Samara's Notes: I thank Kris for being such a willing host and providing us with such comprehensive reports. We now go to the thoughts of a man simply known as Spin.
Yours truly arrived at Cedar Grove about 8'ish to find all four courts occupied by the GTA faithful. There were 3 sets of Doubles and then Mike Mole and Jordan Bachvaroff playing Singles.
My entrance was fit for summer weather. The top was down and the music was blaring. Nate, Lou La Forgia and T.J. Shah were waiting. I counted about 18 people at that time. About 10 minutes later, Doinks arrived and a few sprinkles fell. I exclaimed, "If I have to put my top up, I'm leaving!"
The sprinkles morphed into a steady rain which further morphed into a downpour. As I ran to my car, the Gawleys (Rob and Laura) pulled up. We had to have about 24 people there, but the weather would dash any plans to play. Again, a song comes to mind which completely sums up how everyone felt. And again, it is enclosed for your listening pleasure. (https://www.youtube.com/
Samara's Notes: I thank Spin for his contribution to this report. He had also provided a screen shot to show just how miniscule this rain front was last night…but I cannot get it to Copy and Paste right here. Sorry.
Sincerely,
Frank Samara
