7/13 Results.

7/13/17:

"Gen hosts 9 at C.G.!":

GTA Thursday Night Tennis only took place at The Cedar Grove Courts as "The S Bomber" Genalin Capan acted as the host even though usual host "The K Man" Kris Srinivasan was also present at the session.

We now turn this report over to Gen.

We ended up having a nice evening session at Cedar Grove despite Mother Nature's plan to rain on our parade.  The session was iffy during my drive to Cedar Grove as it started to get to be a steady light rain, but still enough to wet the roads.  Kris sent me a text that it did rain briefly at CG, but the courts should dry by 6:30 if it did not rain anymore.  Then 10 minutes later, a follow-up text from Kris stated that it started to rain again…so possibly we could have a 6:45 to 7:15 starting time.

When I arrived at the courts at 7:15, the courts were still wet with puddles and did not look good.  Kris and his son Sairaj would get to the courts five minutes after my arrival with a squeegee in tow.  Mike Mole was the next arrival.  Kris did wonders as he removed the big puddles.  Mike Mole and I hit against Sairaj on Court 4 to help dry up the court.  Soon after, Kris joined us in hitting.

The next arrivals were T.J. Shah and Rajan Shah.  They soon took over Court 3 and used the squeegee to try and dry up the court.  Kris was kind enough to have them switch over to Court 4 to get some Doubles started while Kris and Sairaj took Court 3 to hit.

They would not wait long as Tito Castolo arrived followed by Dan (aka Spin) Martinelli who joined in to make the next foursome. Laurie Boughton arrived 5 minutes later and parked herself on the bench.  She was quickly invited to join the party on Court 3 as Sairaj exited.  Sairaj was only involved in a mini hitting session, but did not partake in any official action.  Later in the evening, The Gawleys (Rob and Laura) made a cameo and watched some of the action on Court 4.

The Cedar Grove Results:

Mike Mole/Genalin Capan over Rajan Shah/T.J. Shah, 7-5!  T.J.: 1 Ace on Mike!  T.J. and Rajan had a 5-2 lead before Mike and I made a comeback to take the next 5 straight games for the win!  We played this one on Court 4 from 8:05 to 8:46.

Kris Srinivasan/Dan Martinelli over Tito Castolo/Laurie Boughton, 6-3!  Spin: 1 Ace on Laurie.  Once the 1st Doubles One-Setter concluded, they decided to switch over to Court 4 while we took a few minutes break.

Doinks Srinivasan arrived in good time as we concluded the 1st Doubles One-Setter.  T.J. opted to sit out and allowed Rajan to get involved in the next set.

Rajan Shah/Genalin Capan over Mike Mole/Doinks Srinivasan, 6-3!  No Aces.  Mike and Doinks were up 3-0.  Rajan and I made a comeback and took 6 straight games for the win!   We played on Court 3 from 9:02 to 9:38.

Dan Martinelli/T.J. Shah over Tito Castolo/Laurie Boughton, 6-4!  T.J.: 2 Aces (one on each)!

Spin and Laurie were the life of the party.  There were exchanges of banter throughout their set that brought much hilarity as laughter sometimes spilled over to our court.

Rajan Shah/Genalin Capan leading Mike Mole/Doinks Srinivasan, 5-0 (Incomplete when the lights went off at 10pm)!  We almost got this done in time.  I was serving and it ended at 40-15/Double Match Point when the lights went out!  We continued to finish the last point in the dark to get where it was.  We played this one from 9:40 to 10pm.  Rajan and I went on to win 11 straight games and almost went 3-0 for the evening had we completed the last set.

Special thanks to Kris and his squeegee for drying up the courts to make play happen at CG.

Samara's Notes: And also a special thanks to Gen for acting as host and providing us with such a comprehensive report in such a timely manner.

Sincerely,

Frank Samara
