6/6/17:
There was a surprise session of GTA Tuesday Night Tennis at The Cedar Grove Courts (I say "surprise" because I never expected anyone would be able to play given the wet conditions) hosted by "The K Man" Kris Srinivasan.
We now turn this report over to Kris.
For all, it looked tennis was out of the question. But Mother Nature has always been kind to Cedar Grove with a soft corner in her heart. There was a small hope of the rains being pushed off a bit so play would be possible for the willing.
Unfortunately, there were hardly any takers. The Pickle Ballers made the most of their last session, but they had left one court open. GTA Champion: Chris Chiaro was the most enthusiastic to come and then there was Lou La Forgia to follow suit. We had a surprise visit in Edgar Valencia, so we had enough players to have a Doubles session.
The first part was a hitting session with Chris, but once the Picklers left, we moved to Court 1 as there was a big puddle between Courts 3 and 4 because of a clot of debris in the draining system. It was more like a small lake...:-).
Overall, the courts were fairly dry. Just when we started, there was a slight drizzle which was enough to wet the courts but the game must go on, right? We played on somewhat wet courts just like the soccer players. Soon, the lights came on and the drizzle stopped.
The Cedar Grove Result:
3 out of 5 Sets Doubles Match:
Chris Chiaro/Kris Srinivasan over Lou La Forgia/Edgar Valencia, 6-1, 6-2, 6-1, to successfully defend their # 19 Rank in the Doubles Division! In the process, La Forgia/Valencia entered the Doubles Division as the New # 61 Ranked Team. No Aces.
The scores are so deceptive to reflect the quality of the match. Ed is a solid player, with attacking shots. Lou was brilliant with his delightful free-flowing shots. It was Chris who played the dominant role and his gets to some of the shots on a wet surface were outstanding. It was his attacking shots with precise placement that made the biggest impact. It was a pleasure to watch the intense cross-court rallies between Lou and Chris. As long as I didn't goof around…note to Senthil...:-), we were in good shape.
It was three intense sets from just after 7:30 until 9 pm when we closed the shop early, satisfied with decent play for the evening. Cheers!
Samara's Notes: It is telling how devoted Kris is to the sport of tennis as he managed to host a session in such conditions! Kudos to The K Man for hosting and reporting!
Sincerely,
Frank Samara
