7/4/18:
"11 play (2 New) at PAC, 2 play at NSP, no official action at C.G.!":
There were two official sessions of GTA Wednesday Tennis on the July 4th holiday, but shockingly neither one was at the Cedar Grove Courts as no results were reported from that session!
Instead, we had an extended session at The Park Ave. Courts in Nutley which began early in the morning and lasted until late in the afternoon. The report contributors from that session are "The S Bomber" Genalin Capan, "TNT" Tim Nguyen and "SWAT" Rich Liu. Then, later in the evening, "Del Brotro" Mike Mole and "The Scorpion Dragon" Dino Celis got together for a couple of Singles One-Setters (I do believe they had intended on playing a full match, but they ran out of daylight/time) at the courts in Nash-Surgent Park in Clifton behind the Alexus Steakhouse (with both of them reporting).
We will start with the three-headed reporting of all the action that took place in Nutley and then get the dual recap from Clifton.
We now turn this report over to Gen first.
Sukumar Mitra, Dean Delgado, Dan Praport and I were able to get together at 8am on the 4th of July for an early morning GTA session at the Park Ave. Courts. It was a mini-reunion as we all had initially met at these courts prior to joining the GTA.
The temperature dropped into the mid-80 degree range compared to the prior few days, but with the humidity it was feeling more like it was still in the 90's! Luckily, during our session, it was on the cloudy side. Both One-Setters were fun and competitive. We ended the session by 10am.
The Park Ave. Courts Results:
Dean Delgado/Genalin Capan over Dan Praport/Sukumar Mitra, 6-3! Dean: 1 Ace on Dan; Sukumar: 1 Ace on Gen; and Dan: 1 Ace on Gen! We played this one from 8:22 to 8:55.
Dan Praport/Sukumar Mitra over Dean Delgado/Genalin Capan, 7-6(7-2)! Dan: 2 Aces (one on each)! We played this one from 9:00 to 9:55.
Gen's Notes: Dan/Kumar had been up 5-1 in this set. Dean and I battled back and took the next four games to level it at 5-All and then again at 6-6 taking us into the Tiebreak which went like this - 1-0, 2-0, 2-1, 3-1, 3-2, 4-2, 5-2, 6-2 and 7-2 in their favor.
Samara's Notes: I thank Gen for her timely and comprehensive reporting. We now turn it over to Tim.
July 4th was hot and humid, but the sun was not too bad. A few of us braved it out for some tennis fun at the Park Ave. Courts in Nutley. Keith Lewkowitz and I arrived around 11am and we had a singles hitting session until around 12pm. We then walked off the court as it was hot. On the way out, we saw Rich Liu, Joe Renga and Ethan Sin walking in. I decided to go back and play Doubles with them. I teamed up with Ethan played against Rich and Joe.
Tim Nguyen/Ethan Sin over Rich Liu/Joe Renga, 6-0! No Aces. It was the official GTA Debut of Ethan Sin.
Tim Talk: It was nice and fun games. Thanks to all for playing!
Samara's Notes: I thank Tim for his timely and comprehensive reporting as well. While Tim headed off, Rich hung around to host some more Doubles action there. We now turn it over to him.
Rich Liu/Randy Doran over Sam Wong/Darek Jay, 6-3! No Aces. It was the official GTA Debut of Darek Jay.
Rich Liu/Randy Doran over Sam Wong/Darek Jay, 6-4! No Aces.
The Rich Recap: I just met Darek for the first time. He is quite a good player from what I've seen so far.
Samara's Notes: I thank Rich for his very timely reporting as well. It is truly appreciated.
We now head northwest just a bit for the recap from Clifton.
The Nash-Surgent Park Results:
Mike Mole over Dino Celis, 7-6 (7-5)! No Aces.
Dino Celis over Mike Mole, 7-6 (7-4)! No Aces.
The Mole Memo: We played from 7 to 9pm. We couldn't play a 3rd Set to make it a full match as it was getting too dark. It was fun.
Samara's Notes: I thank Mike for his very timely reporting. Dino reported the same. Again, I thank all those who took the time to send me their scores. It is truly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Frank Samara
