7/25 Results.

7/25/17:               

"Mel/Chris/Kris/Gen host 18 at C.G.!":

There was just one session of GTA Tuesday Night Tennis at The Cedar Grove Courts, but it featured four different hosts!  In addition to the usual host, "The K Man" Kris Srinivasan; there were also reporting contributions made by "The Mel Man" Melvin Hyman, Former GTA Champ: "King Crush" Chris Chiaro and "The S Bomber" Genalin Capan.

Once again, Kris pretty much provided an overview, but he was unaware of the earlier action between Hyman and "Stealth" Omar Santos and left if up to Chris and Gen to directly provide their scores.

So first we will go to the results from Mel, then to Chris before we get to the overall report from Kris with some late scores from Gen at the end.

The Cedar Grove Results: 

Omar Santos over Melvin Hyman, 6-2!  Mel: 1 Ace.

The Mel Man delivers: It was closer than the score would indicate.  There were many long rallies and many close games.  Omar was just the stronger player today.

Samara's Notes: I thank Mel for sending those results in a very timely manner.  They had actually intended for it to be a full match, but since Santos is still in the active draw of the ongoing Grove Cup XX Tournament…it had to be divided into two separate One-Setters.

And now we grab some scores from Chris.

Chris Chiaro/Laura Gawley over Nathan Fernandes/Syed Rashid, 7-6 (8-6)!  Laura: 1 Ace on Nathan. 

Nathan Fernandes/Chris Chiaro over Dwight Thomas Sr./Dwight Thomas Jr., 6-1!  No Aces.

Samara's Notes: I thank Chris for sending in those scores in such a timely manner.  That first result seems like a potential Nominee for One-Set Specialty Doubles Match of the Year.  And that second result is quite an impressive victory over the ever-formidable Dwights!

And now we turn this report over to Kris where we will insert some scores from Gen toward the end.

It was a somewhat cooler night, but filled with hot GTA action on three of the four courts as one of the courts was occupied by different groups of non-GTA folks through the night.

Results are expected to come in from different players, and that's a healthy trend as more people are engaged in the process. 

The earliest match to commence for the evening (besides Santos-Hyman) was between Chris and Laura against Nate and Syed on Court 1 (already reported). Court 3 was occupied by non-GTA players involved in Singles.  

Jordan Bachvaroff and Arthur Fontanilla were hitting on Court 4 and as I approached with my son Sairaj, Arthur was vehement to play only Singles. So we took Court 2 (which was filled with debris) to warm up a bit and were joined by Lou La Forgia first and then Andrew Kroessler shortly thereafter.  Jordan and Art gave up their nice court only for other interlopers to grab for the rest of the night.

It was good to see the Dwights and they got into action right away after our match.

Lou was spot-on, but for us Sairaj was both brilliant and, at the same time, coming up with Double Faults and rushed shots that, in the end, reflected upon the results.  I did make crucial errors at the end but, overall, it was an engaging match.

Earlier, I got to see The Dwights battle Nate and Chris.  They started off nicely but, after the first game, Nate and Chris adjusted well to keep their opponents in check.  The Dwights, apparently were not aware of Nate's steady play and targeted him seeing his soft demeanor.  The lob over the charging bulls took the steam out of the bull fight and proved effective.  It must be noted that the Dwights haven't played for some time, but will be back in their groove after some regular playing time.

Senthil Kumar/Mike Sindler over Ryan Pienciak/Genalin Capan, 6-4!  Ryan: 1 Ace on Mike.  We played this on Court 4 from 7:56 to 8:30.

Senthil Kumar/Doinks Srinivasan over Mike Sindler/Genalin Capan, 6-4!  Senthil: 1 Ace on Gen.  We played this on Court 4 from 8:33 to 9:10.

The next set below was getting underway on Court 4 at 9:15.

It turned out to be a good night and Dino Celis made his way to oversee the proceedings and contribute with his tennis tips and we all engaged in some extended tennis talk.  Cheers!
