11/26/16:
"11 (2 New) play impromptu session at C.G.!:"
There was an impromptu session of GTA Saturday Tennis at The Cedar Grove Courts that came together quite quickly and successfully.
"Dominant" Dawn Peterson issued an e-mail to the league Saturday morning seeking to put together a session at 11am. She had already privately lined up some willing participants.
The first to respond was "Mr. 500" Levy Lorenzo who announced that he would love to play with her along with his son, Levy Jr. (aka "LL Cool Jr."), who was visiting from Brooklyn for the Thanksgiving weekend.
"The Argentine Machine" Fernanda Toker then sent a reply stating that she could get there around noon.
Later e-mails went back and forth that included Dennis "The Menace" Cabanatan, Natalia "Nitro" Sout and "Holy Moly" Mike Mole. As it turns out, however, Dennis was later unable to attend the session while Mike did get involved in some official action but also only had a one hour hitting session with Natalia.
Without "Hollywood" Frank Samara or the usual host there, "The K Man" Kris Srinivasan, this session ended up being quite a success.
And this is how the relatively new e-mail address that "The Webmaster" Senthil Kumar created should function. All you have to do is to send a reply to the Google groups address from which all the group e-mails generate and it serves as a "Reply to All" without the prior problems we had with such a lengthy mailing list.
It is a shame that this only started being used successfully so late in the season, but it proves to be a promising development for next season and the other seasons to follow.
We now list contributions from Lorenzo, Toker, "The Marathon Woman" Doinks Srinivasan, "Latino Heat" Jose Gonzales and "RK Fire" Rafaelo Kazakov .
Let's now recap all the action that transpired up at Cedar Grove.
The Cedar Grove Results:
Jose Gonzales/Levy Lorenzo Jr. over Rafaelo Kazakov/Melvin Hyman, 6-2! Jose: 2 Aces; and Levy: 1 Ace. It was the official GTA Debut of Levy Lorenzo Jr.
Levy Lorenzo/Brenda Jordan over Mike Mole/Dawn Peterson, 8-6! No Aces.
Levy's Letter: We opted to continue playing until one team won by two games (no Tiebreak). We were leading 4-0, but they caught up to take the lead at 5-4. We took the next two games to go up 6-5 before it tied up again at 6-6. We then took the last two games.
Jose Gonzales/Kevin Doyle over Levy Lorenzo Jr./Alex Roumi, 7-6 (7-3)! No Aces. It was the official GTA Debut of Alex Roumi.
Mike Mole/Brenda Jordan over Levy Lorenzo/Dawn Peterson, 6-2! No Aces.
Levy Lorenzo Jr./Doinks Srinivasan over Rafaelo Kazakov/Fernanda Toker, 6-3! Levy: 1 Ace.
Doinks' Diary: I chose to play with Levi Jr. since my left knee was still hurting. He plays an aggressive game and has some good ground-strokes.
Jose Gonzales/Fernanda Toker over Levy Lorenzo Jr./Alex Roumi, 6-1! No Aces.
Toker's Take: I was able to get the e-mail address of Alex who is friends with Mel Hyman as he expressed interest in becoming part of the league (Doinks also supplied the same).
Samara's Notes: I thank all involved for both their reporting and recruiting efforts.
Sincerely,
Frank Samara
