10/20 Results.

10/20/16:

"Kris hosts 4 at C.G.!":

GTA Thursday Night Tennis took place at The Cedar Grove Courts with "The K Man" Kris Srinivasan acting as host.  We turn this report over to him now.

Rains were expected and as such tennis was not in the scheme of things for me.  But then, the Monk Memorial Semifinal between the teams of Joe Rodrigues and my son Sairaj against Raj Shah and Raj Boddu had originally been scheduled for a 6:30pm start.

With a parent-teacher conference in my son Jay's school, we were tied up but returned just before 6:30.

Joe was there ready to call it a night as the courts were somewhat wet with a slight rain that must have taken place earlier.  It was a very slight drizzle that had stopped.

We scrapped the initial thought of postponing and thought we could play and so that was conveyed to Boddu.  But a constant misty situation meant the courts never got to dry completely and looked suspicious.

Samara's Notes: Shah conveyed to the rest of the group that he thought it best to reschedule, so now the Semifinal is set for this coming Monday night at 6:30.  We now go back to Kris.

Initially, it was just a hitting session between Jordan Bachvaroff, Joe and Sairaj.  I joined them and as we started some Doubles, Boddu and took my slot so they could play a full Doubles One-Setter…the only one that took place for the evening.

The Cedar Grove Result:

Sairaj Srinivasan/Joe Rodrigues over Jordan Bachvaroff/Raj Boddu, 6-1!  Sairaj: 1 Ace on Jordan!

The conditions were not ideal and the guys played gingerly.  But I should say that both Sairaj and Joe were solid and played a clean game.  After a slow start, Boddu was getting in his serves but his rallies were impressive right from the beginning.  It was a mixed bag for Jordan, but then it was difficult to play freely given that the courts were a bit wet.  It was more than misty to enable further play.

My wife Doinks came to hit the ball when the first match was on its concluding stage.  We decided to call it a day and Ryan Pienciak just showed up, a tad disappointed that we had decided to play another day.

Temperature-wise, it was great but for the wet conditions.  C'est la vie!  Cheers!

Samara's Notes: This time around, everything was the opposite of how it usually goes with Cedar Grove remaining dry while just about every other surrounding town would experience some level of rainfall.  Well, last night in Passaic, it remained dry all the way until the overnight hours.  So I had assumed the same was holding true up at Cedar Grove (which would have enabled a greater session).  Turns out you can't count on what is happening weather-wise just a town or two away nowadays.

As always, thanks to Kris for all he does for the GTA up at Cedar Grove.

Sincerely,

Frank Samara
