9/17 Results.

9/17/16:

"Kris hosts 15 at C.G. as Men's/Women's Doubles both score!":

There was just one session of GTA Saturday Night Tennis: the usual evening session at The Cedar Grove Courts (hosted by "The K Man" Kris Srinivasan).

So we now go to the report from Kris.

What started as a quiet day on Saturday ended up in an active session of GTA Tennis in Cedar Grove.  The strength of the women's players in action was significant and the turnout of the men was not too shabby either.

The Cedar Grove Results:

Sairaj Srinivasan/Dan Martinelli over Kevin Doyle/Natalia Sout, 6-3!  No Aces (apparently).

Spin made up for his nearly weeklong absence with his lively presence and, with Sairaj, he was going gung-ho.  Kevin also felt that Sairaj was playing an aggressive game.

2 out of 3 Sets Women's Doubles Match:

Doinks Srinivasan/Brenda Jordan over Kathy Sheldon/Dawn Peterson, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, to become the New # 4 Ranked Team in the Women's Doubles Division!  No Aces (apparently).

Initially, the women had planned to play just two sets.  But after winning a set apiece, they couldn't resist playing the deciding 3rd Set and make it a full match.

Greg Swierczek/Mike Kazlauskas over Senthil Kumar/Jose Gonzales, 6-2!  No Aces (apparently).

It was an easy win for the big guys as they were unloading their serves (especially Kaz) and they kept the pressure on right through the match.

Mike Kazlauskas/Kris Srinivasan over Greg Swierczek/Jose Gonzales, 6-2!  Greg: 2 Aces on Kris!

Kaz served superbly and Greg did, too, in one of his service games, acing me twice!  That game did go to multiple Deuces, but overall we played well enough to overpower our opposition.

Greg Swierczek/Mike Kazlauskas over Senthil Kumar/Kris Srinivasan, 6-3!  No Aces.

I should take "credit" for our loss for suddenly after the first few games, I seemed to have lost energy and felt hungry…:-).  The level of my game dropped and despite Senthil doing a splendid job, I just blew multiple points.

Dan Martinelli/Andrew Troung over Kevin Doyle/Natalia Sout, 6-2!  No Aces (apparently).

The Spin-Troung combo proved to be too strong as they were relentless and in control of the set.

Dino got to play a non-GTA Singles Match and when he finished it, Kaz was happy to hit the ball with him.

2 out of 3 Sets Doubles Match:

Kris Srinivasan/Jordan Bachvaroff over Senthil Kumar/Jose Gonzales, 6-4, 7-5, as both teams entered the Doubles Division as the New # 47 and # 48 Ranked Teams respectively!  Jose: 1 Ace on Jordan!

This was a classic comeback performance by us in both sets.  Down Love-3 in the 1st Set, we got on the scoreboard in the fourth game but soon we were down 2-4.  That's when we took matters into our own hands and we charged to a 6-4 win!  Full credit goes to Jordan for playing superbly and serving as well. This, especially after he had 3 Sets of a non-GTA Singles Match with his friend!

The 2nd Set was eerily the same with us starting poorly down Love-3 before getting on the board.  We almost had the same scene of going 2-4, but missed out on multiple opportunities to break Jose's serve. Now, down 1-5, our backs were against the wall but we did splendidly well to win one game at a time to get to the finish line.  It was a super-sweet win and we played superbly as a team.  The best part was that we managed to finish it just a minute before the lights went off.

Great finish and it was a lovely session indeed!  Cheers!

Samara's Notes: It definitely sounds like it was a great way to cap the night.  Even though that last match was a straight-setter, it may still have an outside chance at being a Nominee for Doubles Match of The Year at season's end.

As always, I thank Kris for always being the host with the most up at Cedar Grove.

Sincerely,

Frank Samara
