5/4 Results.

5/4/18:

"Wong-Sherry part of 20 at C.G.!":

There was just one session of GTA Friday Night Tennis at The Cedar Grove Courts, but it was a big one that got underway with the GTA Intermediate Invitational Round of 16 Match featuring "The Samson of Seasons" Sam Wong going up against "The Running Man" Ryan Sherry (with both reporting).  From there, we also had score contributions made by the following (in no particular order): "The Riz" John Rizzo, "The K Man" Kris Srinivasan, "The Marathon Woman" Doinks Srinivasan, "The Webmaster" Senthil Kumar, "L-Boogie" Laurie Boughton and "Ragin'" Rajan Shah (often with overlapping results).

We will first go to the dual report from Ryan and Sam followed by the scores reported by the rest of the group and I will do my best to put it all in some form of chronological order.

The Cedar Grove Results:

GTA Intermediate Invitational Round of 16 Match:
Ryan Sherry over Sam Wong, 6-2, 6-3, to become the New # 18 Ranked Player in the Intermediate Division while advancing to the Quarterfinals of the GTA Intermediate Invitational Tournament!  Ryan: 2 Aces!

The Ryan Report: Sam put up a great fight and played well, but I was able to squeak by for the win.  Great playing, Sam!

Sam Says: Ryan played very well and was consistent.  I had a great time and enjoyable night.  I'm looking forward to playing him again, it was a lot of fun, indeed!

Samara's Notes: I thank both for their very timely reporting and congratulate Ryan on a hard-fought victory!  I also offer major kudos to Sam for a spirited effort.  In terms of Round of 16 Matches left in the draw - that is now seven down and just one more to go!

Speaking of "go"...let's now go to the rest of the results from Cedar Grove.

Brenda Jordan/Dawn Peterson over Fadia Nicolas/Laurie Boughton, 6-4!  No Aces.

Fadia Nicolas/Laurie Boughton over Brenda Jordan/Dawn Peterson, 6-3!  No Aces.

Jorge Solano/Laurie Boughton over Rafaelo Kazakov/Fadia Nicolas, 6-2!  No Aces.

2 out of 3 Sets Doubles Match:
T.J. Shah/Rajan Shah over Kris Srinivasan/Tito Castolo, 6-3, 6-4, to successfully defend their # 12 Rank in the Doubles Division!  In the process, Srinivasan/Castolo entered the division as the New # 159 Ranked Team.  No Aces.

The K Man delivers: In both sets we were leading only to blow it all away!  T.J. and Rajan were both brilliant with great ground-strokes.  We saved 4 Match Points during incredible rallies only to succumb to silly shots!

Jose Gonzales/Frank Hohorst over Senthil Kumar/Doinks Srinivasan, 6-1!  No Aces.

Senthil Kumar/Doinks Srinivasan over Jose Gonzales/Laurie Boughton, 6-3!  No Aces.

The Untangled Web by Senthil: In one of my plays at the net, my swing was hard and the ball hit Laurie.  I was trying to go behind her but, as we know, we don't always have accuracy as "club players."  The ball hit her on her head and she was shaken up...so please acknowledge my apologies in your report.

Samara's Notes: Duly noted and appreciated.  I would expect that Laurie understands as well...though it is noteworthy to note (see what I did there...LOL!) that Laurie failed to include this last result in her report of Friday scores to me...so maybe she blanked out a bit after this one.  L-Boogie is a tough gal...and is used to getting hit on by men.  Oh, wait...this time she was hit on the head by a ball hit by a guy...not quite the same thing.  DOH!  Anyway, in all seriousness, she did not say anything negative about the experience, so I will safely assume all's well that ends well.

Nathan Fernandes/Natalia Sout over John Rizzo/Andrew Truong, 6-4!  No Aces.

John Rizzo/Frank Hohorst over Jose Gonzales/Senthil Kumar, 6-3!  No Aces.

Samara's Notes: That was the best recap that I could come up with based on what was given to me.  I hope it is close to achieving accuracy and completion.  I thank all the contributors for their timely, informative and often entertaining reports.

Best wishes,
Frank Samara
