4/7 Results.

4/7/18:

"Bernard-Bergenfeld 1-Setters at VHS!":

There was just one session of GTA Saturday Tennis at The Verona High School Courts as "The Headhunter" Ralph Bernard issued an Open Challenge to the league and then "Ice Berg" Scott Bergenfeld took him up on it.  The following results (along with commentary) are reported by Scott…and so we turn it over to him now.

I took up Ralph Bernard's offer to play Singles.  He was coming off of four hours of tennis the night before at The Wayne Bubble.  I, myself, was coming off a bad cold.  We opted to play only One-Setters since I am now committed to the Intermediate Invitational Tournament and therefore couldn't partake in a full Challenge Match.

We played at the newly resurfaced Verona High School courts, (which are very nice, I must say!).

The VHS Results:

Scott Bergenfeld over Ralph Bernard, 6-4!  Scott and Ralph: 1 Ace each!

Scott Bergenfeld over Ralph Bernard, 6-0!  No Aces.

Scott Bergenfeld over Ralph Bernard, 7-5!  No Aces.

The Skinny from Scott: It was very competitive tennis.  The second One-Setter was a fluke.  Ralph was getting frustrated and making too many errors.  I was able to keep the ball to my forehand side and make the shots I needed to make.

There was a cameo made by Jordan Bachvaroff who was playing someone in Singles on another court who I do not think is in the GTA.

Ralph and I then hit for around 20 minutes after the three sets.  He was running me all over the court then, so I had to call it a day.  All in all, it was a good afternoon of competitive tennis.

Samara's Notes: It seems to be a shame for Scott that he was unable to have this recorded as a full Challenge Match.  Of course, we cannot assume that either player would have still played in the same manner (different mentality in a full match mindset).  I thank Scott for his very timely reporting of those scores.

Sincerely,

Frank Samara
