9/23 Results.

9/23/17:

"Chiaro-Daddio at PAC, just hitting at C.G.!":

There were two sessions of GTA Saturday Tennis: a morning one at The Park Ave. Courts in Nutley featuring the Grove Cup XX Semifinal Match between "King Crush" Chris Chiaro and "Daddy O" Paul Daddio; and then an evening one at The Cedar Grove Courts where "The Mel Man" Melvin Hyman said that, as far as he knew, there was just some practice hitting.

Let's first get the big result!

The Park Ave. Result:

Grove Cup XX Semifinal Match:

Paul Daddio over Chris Chiaro, 6-7 (7-5), 6-2, 6-1, to become the New # 2 Ranked Player in the Advanced Division while advancing to the Finals of the 20th Annual Grove Cup Tournament!  No Aces.

The Dilly-O from Daddy O: The match was played at The Park Ave. Courts from 11:30 to 1:45.  The heat was intense and the wind was blowing pretty constantly from one end to the other, making shot selection completely different depending on your side of the court.  I would say the wind helped my type of game over Chris's more and more as the match went on.  Chris has outstanding shots and can run almost everything down.  This match was closer than the last two sets indicate as the wind and heat took a toll on both of us.

The Scenario from Chiaro: Yeah, the match was good.  Congratulations to Paul!  He was definitely the much steadier player.  As Paul said, the heat was brutal and the wind was even worse.  Any sort of pace put on the ball sent the ball flying!  With that being said though, Paul played great and full credit goes to him.

The Consequences: Now Daddio waits for the winner of the other Semi – "The Lumberjack" Ryan Pienciak versus "The Sultan of Swing" Raj Shah.

Samara's Notes: I thank both for sending in the result along with their commentary in a very timely manner.  And I congratulate Paul on a very impressive victory.

We now go to Cedar Grove for a brief report from Mel.

It was a spirited hitting session that I had with Natalia Sout and Jose Gonzales.  There were no matches Saturday night that I'm aware of, but I don't usually stay past 7:30.

Samara's Notes: I thank Mel for keeping me in the loop.  As nobody else reported any matches from that evening, I have to assume he is correct in his assumption.

Sincerely,

Frank Samara
