3/25 Results.

3/25/17:

"Spin/Levy host 10 at C.G.!":

There was a somewhat impromptu session of GTA Saturday Tennis at The Cedar Grove Courts that came together over the course of the day via e-mails back and forth within the group.  Even though the usual host "The K Man" Kris Srinivasan was part of the session, it was "Spin Doctor" Dan Martinelli and "Mr. 500" Levy Lorenzo that stepped up as hosts and ended up reporting the results and other details.

It is somewhat unfortunate that new prospect Brad Gero never got involved in any official action despite the fact that he repeatedly e-mailed the league looking to become a part of it.

We will now turn this report over to Spin and then Levy.

The Cedar Grove Results:

Kris Srinivasan/Dwight Thomas Jr. over Dan Martinelli/Dwight Thomas Sr., 6-4!  Dwight Jr.: 1 Ace on Spin.

Dan Martinelli/Dwight Thomas Sr. over Kris Srinivasan/Dwight Thomas Jr., 6-4!  Dwight Jr.: 1 Ace on his dad!

The Spin from Spin: Kris sent Spin a text on Friday evening informing him of tennis up at Cedar Grove that very night.  Spin texted back that he had other plans, but would be there Saturday weather permitting.

The timing of Kris' text was perfect.  A 4pm start was to be the order of the day.  Spin rolled up to see all of the courts occupied.  It turned out that Spin was needed as the Thomases and Kris needed a fourth.  The wisdom of Kris dictated that we split "The English Muffins" because Kris and I would have no chance against the dynamic father and son duo.  Kris was also pressed for time which did become a factor in the second One-Setter.  Kudos to Kris for sticking it out to the end!

The pressure was on early as the Senior Dwight said we have to win or I will never hear the end of it at the Saturday dinner table.  The Dwights hit with a lot of pace and a lot of accuracy.  The first One-Setter ended in "controversy" as Dwight Jr. hit a screaming winner right between the older gents for the Match Point.  Dad said it was in, but Spin thought it was out.  We had a laugh with this as Spin had the better look, but it was Dwight's son who hit the ball.  The ball was declared in even though Kris offered to play the point over.  It turned out to be a bigger deal than first thought because the more this first One-Setter went on, the more in jeopardy the second One-Setter was of not being completed.

The second One-Setter saw the same kind of action, but Kris and "The Kid" started strong.  Dad and Spin held their ground and came away with the win.  You could see that Kris really had to leave as I think he pushed a little bit to "get 'er done".   As I sai,d he could have left earlier and this great set would have become unofficial.  It was good, fun tennis for sure.  Finally, there would be peace at the dinner table on this night with each team taking one set apiece.

Samara's Notes: I thank Spin for his colorful and comprehensive commentary.  And now we go to Levy for additional results.

Chris Homick over Jorge Solano, 6-1!  No Aces (apparently).

Jorge Solano over Chris Homick, 6-1!  No Aces (apparently).

Andrew Truong/Natalia Sout over Joe Rodrigues/Levy Lorenzo, 6-2!  No Aces (apparently).

Samara's Notes: I thank Levy for doing his part in recording and reporting results as well.

Sincerely,

Frank Samara
