“Santos-Ortega in Wayne, Kris hosts 9 at C.G.!”:
GTA Wednesday Tennis took place at The Nellis Drive Courts in Wayne (featuring a full 3 out of 5 Sets Challenge Match between “Stealth” Omar Santos and “Eddie O” Edwin Ortega, score sent in by Edwin) and The Cedar Grove Courts (hosted by “Papa K” Kris Srinivasan).
Let’s first go to the recap from Edwin before we get the Cedar Grove report from Kris (with an additional result sent in by Doinks).
The Nellis Drive Result:
3 out of 5 Sets Challenge Match:
Edwin Ortega over Omar Santos, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4, to become both the New # 23 Ranked Player in the Advanced Division and the New # 16 Ranked Player in the Intermediate Division! No Aces (apparently).
Eddie’s Editorial: The 1st Set was kind of a warm-up with Omar leading most of the time. In the 2nd Set, I was able to lead at 3-0 before Omar caught up but ultimately came up short. The 3rd Set was just a "regular" one. The 4th Set was similar to the 2nd Set, but with Omar leading at 3-0. I caught up at 4-3 before the rain break. Luckily, the rain was not enough completely wet the courts so we were able to finish the set at 4-6.
Samara’s Notes: I thank Edwin for his report and congratulate him on his victory.
We will now head up to Cedar Grove and first go to the score from Doinks and then get the balance from Kris.
The Cedar Grove Results:
Kevin Doyle/Brenda Jordan over Doinks Srinivasan/Natalia Sout, 7-5! No Aces (apparently).
Samara’s Notes: I thank Doinks for her contribution. According to Kris, Kevin and Brenda had been down 1-4 in that one. And now we go back to Kris for the rest.
We got off to a late start on a windy night with low temperatures where the courts were occupied mostly by non-GTA players (perhaps The Pickle Ballers have upgraded to tennis?).
It is safe to say that Spin (aka Dan Martinelli) was The King of Canadian Doubles for the night. As for the actual official scores, they are as follows.
Kris Srinivasan/Dan Martinelli over Edwin Ortega/Kevin Doyle, 6-3! No Aces.
Edwin Ortega/Tito Castolo over Norman Taclob/Kris Srinivasan, 7-6 (7-2)! Edwin: 1 Ace on Kris; and Norman: 1 Ace on Edwin!
We were leading 5-1 only to give away five straight games thanks to good play from both Edwin and Tito which was also compounded by our sloppy performance.
Overall, there was some tennis that lacked consistency and a bit of spark. But this was attributable to it being a windy and cold night which led to the lack of a good turnout of our players. Cheers!
Samara’s Notes: Both Kris and Doinks are the hosts with the most up at Cedar Grove. As always, I thank both of them for all of their efforts to help enhance the league there.
Sincerely,
Frank Samara
