“Taclob-Mole at RHP, Pienciak-Ortega part of 8 at C.G.!”:
GTA Thursday Night Tennis took place at two locations: Robin Hood Park in Clifton (featuring an impromptu 2 out of 3 Sets Challenge Match between “Stormin” Norman Taclob and “Holy Moly” Mike Mole, score sent in by Mike) and at The Cedar Grove Courts (hosted by “Papa K” Kris Srinivasan).
First, we go to RHP for the score from Mole. After that, up to Cedar Grove we will go.
The RHP Result:
2 out of 3 Sets Challenge Match:
Norman Taclob over Mike Mole, 6-4, 6-2, to successfully defend his # 7 Rank in the Advanced Division! No Aces (apparently).
Samara’s Notes: I thank Mike for sending in that score in a very timely fashion.
And now we head up to Cedar Grove for the full recap from Kris.
It was a gorgeous night put to full use by both GTA and non-GTA players, using up all the courts. Jorge Solano missed out playing after waiting for a while. Dino Celis had a good night playing a non-GTA Singles Match. Dawn Peterson also missed out after waiting a bit. She promised to come back, but we didn’t get to see her again.
The Cedar Grove Results:
2 out of 3 Sets Double Match:
Kris Srinivasan/Senthil Kumar over Greg Swierczek/Santosh Reddy, 7-6 (8-6), 6-3, as both teams entered the Doubles Division as the New # 29 and # 30 Ranked Teams respectively! Santosh: 1 Ace on Senthil!
It turned out to be a very close match after the first part in which everyone held their serves. After getting a break to go up 5-4, we couldn’t close out the set. Again, after going up 6-5, we failed to hold our serves. Greg was brilliant, playing solid tennis and his serves were top-notch. Senthil has been playing very well these days. His consistency, net play, overheads and slices have significantly improved, which is reflected in his recent scores. It was a mixed bag for me and Santosh. Overall, the two sets made our day.
2 out of 3 Sets Challenge Match:
Ryan Pienciak over Edwin Ortega, 6-1, 6-0, to successfully defend his # 25 Rank in the Intermediate Division! No Aces (apparently).
Ryan Pienciak over Rafaelo Kazakov, 6-1! No Aces (apparently).
It was a very good night for Ryan in Singles, but I believe it was a different story in Doubles. There was also a Doubles Match between Tito Castolo and Laura Gawley against Dino Celis and Rob Gawley. The last match was incomplete, saving us some blushes...:-).
Samara’s Notes: Nobody sent me anything resembling what Kris just discussed in that last paragraph, so it will all have to remain as unofficial as I am no longer wasting my time chasing down scores. And now we go back to Kris.
Senthil Kumar/Laura Gawley leading Kris Srinivasan/Santosh Reddy, 5-1! Kris: 1 Ace on Senthil!
Down Love-5, we held our serves comfortably before the lights went out. Despite error-prone play, we did have a shot in a couple of games but missed out. Laura was playing great in tandem with Senthil and indeed they were cruising for a facile win. Cheers!
Samara’s Notes: As always, thanks to Kris for hosting our GTA sessions up at Cedar Grove and also for being so willing to provide us with such comprehensive reports. Whenever I offer up any criticism about results going unreported, it is never directed at him as he cannot be expected to be able to chase down everything…especially while he is also busy playing.
Sincerely,
Frank Samara
