“Mixed Doubles action at C.G., part of 12 on Cinco de Mayo!”:
GTA Thursday Night Tennis somewhat surprisingly took place at The Cedar Grove Courts (co-hosted by “Latino Heat” Jose Gonzales and “Kevlar” Kevin Doyle as both sent in the results of two separate and full Mixed Doubles Matches that they were both involved in) as a dreary day of drizzle eventually gave way to dry, but cold conditions.
This just in – “Papa K” Kris Srinivasan provided us with a late report (he had to make a trip to the airport this morning) of another full Doubles match that took place last night.
While most others were getting drunk on Cinco de Mayo, these twelve players opted for tennis instead…and I applaud them for that.
We will now go to the two matches as sent in by Jose and Kevin. We will start with Kevin’s score as I believe that is the one that finished first.
The Cedar Grove Results:
2 out of 3 Set Mixed Doubles Match:
Kevin Doyle/Brenda Jordan over Jorge Solano/Dawn Peterson, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1, to successfully defend their # 10 Rank in the Mixed Doubles Division while Solano/Peterson entered the division as the New # 28 Ranked Team! No Aces (apparently).
Kev’s Comments: We lost the 1st Set, but we came back to win the next two. There were many close games. It was tough competition.
Samara’s Notes: I thank Kevin for his recap and now we go to Jose.
2 out of 3 Set Mixed Doubles Match:
Jose Gonzales/Natalia Sout over Dave Zhu/Jane Fan, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5), as both teams entered the Mixed Doubles Division as the New # 29 and # 30 Ranked Teams respectively! No Aces.
Samara’s Notes: As of right now, this looks like the match to beat for Mixed Doubles Match of The Year at season’s end! I thank Jose for that score. And now Kris will close out this report.
3 out of 5 Sets:
Nathan Fernandes/Doinks Srinivasan over Kris Srinivasan/Santosh Reddy, 7-5, 6-4, 6-2! Santosh: 2 Aces (1 on Nate in the 1st Set and 1 on Doinks in the 2nd Set)!
Kris Srinivasan/Santosh Reddy leading Nathan Fernandes/Doinks Srinivasan, 4-1 (Incomplete, when the lights went out at 10pm)!
The Say from Papa K: Both Nate and Doinks played superbly and there were plenty of winners by Nate hitting some handsome Overhead Smashes and great slices. For us, Santosh served well with one Ace on Nate in the 1st Set and one on Doinks in the 2nd Set. I played recklessly and spoiled the day for poor Santosh. Doinks played attacking shots and did splendidly well at the net. Her deep shots helped Nate put away our poor lobs. Overall, it was forgettable play from my side, but that didn't stop us from playing one set after the other trying to reverse he results just like one tends to keep playing in a casino to recoup the losses...:-) Cheers!
Samara’s Notes: I thank Kris for providing us with that report.
Sincerely,
Frank Samara
