8/8/17:
"Edwin-Omar in Totowa, Lena-Dawn in Mt.Clair, 27 play (1 new, 2 return) at C.G.!":
There were three sessions of GTA Tuesday Tennis: a late-morning into the early afternoon one at The PAL Courts in Totowa as "Salsa Picante" Edwin Ortega and "Stealth" Omar Santos had a 2 out of 3 Sets Challenge Match with one another (as reported by Omar), an evening one at The Mountainside Courts (aka Iris Gardens) in Upper Montclair as "LP" Lena Pyatski and "Dominant" Dawn Peterson were finally able to face off in their GAH7 Round of 10 Match against each other (as reported by Dawn) and the usual evening one at The Cedar Grove Courts hosted by "The K Man" Kris Srinivasan.
We will first get the result from Omar in Totowa, then the result from Dawn in Montcliar and then the Cedar Grove recap and scores from Kris.
The Totowa PAL Courts Result:
2 out of 3 Sets Challenge Match:
Edwin Ortega over Omar Santos, 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-5), to successfully defend both his # 23 Rank in the Advanced Division and his # 8 Rank in the Intermediate Division! Edwin: 1 Ace on Match Point!
The Stealth Report: We played in my hometown of Totowa near the PAL parking lot from 11:30am to 1:30pm. The newly constructed courts were funded by Passaic County. There was even a photo of me practicing my ground-strokes taken by our local Passaic Valley newspaper (after the ribbon-cutting ceremony held by our mayor and other politicians) two weeks ago. Mike Mole saw me in the paper and called me a "Totowa celebrity."
Samara's Notes: I thank Omar for submitting that result in a very timely manner. And now we head up to Montclair to get the result from Dawn.
The Mountainside Park Result:
GAH7 Round of 10 Match:
Lena Pyatski over Dawn Peterson, 6-1, 6-1, to successfully defend her # 11 Rank in the Women's Division while also advancing to the Quarterfinals of the 7th Annual Gail-ann Hamilton Memorial Women's Tournament! No Aces.
Dawn's Daily News: It was an enjoyable match with many long points. We played from 7pm to 8:30, just before darkness fell upon the courts.
The Consequences: Lena will now face "The Argentine Machine" Fernanda Toker in the Quarterfinals.
Samara's Notes: I thank Dawn for submitting that result in such a timely manner. And now we let Kris take over the rest of this report.
It was perfect weather for tennis. As such, it was unquestionably inviting for all of us to have a go…especially after the rain-drenched Monday that saw no play at all. As eager as I was to start early, I had a last-minute assignment that delayed my foray to the courts until a little after 7:45pm.
It was one crazy night with a big logjam as players started piling up outside the fences near the parking lot. Initially, it was Herb Reiner hitting on one court with Mirav Glavic while Kyle Jansen was hitting with his pal on another court that accelerated the pile-up. The dozen or so players along the fence looked like a bunch of ravens sitting on a ledge...just waiting to swoop in on their prey…:-).
The highlight of the night was Dino Celis getting his feet wet in the last 15 minutes or so by getting involved in a hitting session. He moved quite gingerly as he was being careful, but it was good to see him in action.
Now here is a quick recap of the night's proceedings.
The Cedar Grove Results:
Kevin Doyle/Brenda Jordan over Syed Rashid/Natalia Sout, 6-4! No Aces.
Chris Chiaro/Senthil Kumar over Kris Srinivasan/Lou La Forgia, 6-4! No Aces.

Paul Daddio/Abhilash Gadi over Levy Lorenzo/T.J. Shah, 6-4! No Aces.
Kris Srinivasan/Syed Rashid over Joe Rodrigues/Dan Martinelli, 6-1! No Aces.

Overall, it was a blockbuster night of GTA Tennis action. Cheers!
Samara's Notes: I thank Kris for hosting up at Cedar Grove and submitting those results in such a timely manner. It definitely sounds like it was an epic evening, indeed!

Frank Samara
