8/2/17:
"B.O.T.S. in Bora Bora! Kris hosts 5 at C.G.!":
GTA Wednesday Tennis took place in two locations and one of them was the very exotic location of Bora Bora! "The Argentine Machine" Fernanda Toker sent in the result of a "Battle of The Sexes" One-Setter she had with her man, "Tireless" Tommy Reszkowski. And then there was a late evening session (after the rain) at The Cedar Grove Courts with usual host "The K Man" Kris Srinivasan returning to his post.
We first go to the result from Fernanda and then turn this report over to Kris.
The Bora Bora Result:
"Battle of the Sexes":
Fernanda Toker over Tommy Reszkowski, 6-4! No Aces.
Toker's Take: The match was played at 1pm on the grass courts of The Four Seasons in Bora Bora.
Tommy's Take: I had her sweating! LOL!
Samara's Notes: I really appreciate that they submitted this result. I'm tempted to say that this may be both our first international result as well as our first grass court result in the history of the league, but I'm not entirely sure. In the past, players have submitted GTA Tennis results while away on vacation. I'm tempted to say there was some action in Cancun, Mexico once…but I'm not 100% sure of that. I also cannot state with absolute certainty that it was the first-ever GTA match played on grass courts. In any event, this is a very historic submission and I thank them both for it.
We now return to the States and head up to Cedar Grove for the report from Kris.
It was good to be back in action and, despite the rain earlier, the Cedar Grove Courts were accommodative to facilitating some action. It was a late start (close to 8pm), but then we were able to play a full session.
The Cedar Grove Results:
Sairaj Srinivasan/Ryan Pienciak over Kris Srinivasan/Senthil Kumar, 6-1! Sairaj: 1 Ace on Ryan!
It surely was a one-sided game with contrasting form. A week away from playing was telling on my game while Sairaj was razor-sharp. We had not won a single point…losing 14 points in a row…and it looked like a golden set was in the making for Ryan and Sairaj (who was brilliant in playing attacking shots mixed with a great touch for volleys at the net). Finally, finally we won our first point in the fourth game! We even managed to get on board in this game with Senthil holding his serve. We had promising moments from thereon, but were never able to close any further games. Sairaj hammered the nail on our coffin serving an Ace on Senthil on Match Point to win the set! He had quite a few down-the-line backhand winners, leaving us helpless.
Kris Srinivasan/Senthil Kumar over Sairaj Srinivasan/Ryan Pienciak, 6-4! No Aces.
We did much better in this set after starting off down Love-2 to then lead 4-2. But a nice comeback by Ryan and Sairaj tied the match at 4-All. Sairaj missed out on some of his volleys and came up with some double faults to help us move ahead. Senthil was steady and solid to keep our boat afloat.
Doinks was just practicing her serves all this time. We decided to get her in as she replaced Sairaj.
Kris Srinivasan/Senthil Kumar tied with Ryan Pienciak/Doinks Srinivasan, 4-4 (Incomplete when the lights went out at 10pm)! No Aces.
It was a good match that saw Doinks' return of serves in great form and she also played attacking shots. So did Ryan, especially on his return of serves to Senthil. Ryan was showing his usual good touch at the net in this set. This set was even with holds and breaks.
What turned to be a hitting session for an hour or so ended up with us playing some close matches. Cheers!
Samara's Notes: I thank Kris for resuming the role of host up at Cedar Grove and submitting this report in such a timely manner.
Sincerely,
Frank Samara
