8/5/17:
"2 play (1 return) at AP, Riz hosts 4 at NTC, Kris hosts 10 at C.G.!":
There were three sessions of GTA Saturday Tennis: an early afternoon one at The Albion Park Courts as "Magic" Mike Mole ended up playing an impromptu One-Setter with "Lightning" Lukasz Krzesiewicz (who was making his surprise return to the GTA), an early evening one at The Nutley Tennis Club with "The Riz" John Rizzo acting as host and then the usual evening one at The Cedar Grove Courts hosted by "The K Man" Kris Srinivasan.
First we will go to the result from Albion, then the result from John and then turn this report over to Kris.
The Albion Park Result:
Mike Mole over Lukasz Krzesiewicz, 6-3! No Aces. It was the official GTA Return of Lukasz Krzesiewicz.
Samara's Notes: I thank Lukasz for submitting that result as I also welcome him back to the league. He has been very busy with his college studies, but hopes to make it to the courts a little more frequently going forward.
We now head to NTC for The Riz Report.
The NTC Result:
2 out of 3 Sets Mixed Doubles Match:
John Rizzo/Natalia Sout over Ray Spadaro/Laurie Boughton, 7-5, 6-3, to become the New # 37 Ranked Team in the Mixed Doubles Division! No Aces.
Samara's Notes: I thank John for reporting that result in a very timely manner. And we now let The K take it away!
Our Saturday night session was a low-key affair, but we still got to see a couple of full matches. Jose Gonzales initiated interest to play and then following up with Spin (aka Dan Martinelli) sealed the deal.
The Cedar Grove Results:
Jose Gonzales/Kris Srinivasan over Paul Daddio/Dan Martinelli, 6-4! No Aces.
The highlight of the match was indeed the super-athletic movement of Paul, especially his get to a net-cord ball that was unrealistic! One of his down-the-line returns to Jose's serve was sweetly timed as I poached. He seemed to be a bit too tight while serving though. Spin had some lovely spanking drives and he kept the match close. We were not accurate with quite a few shots as the new balls were lively and had more zip.
2 out of 3 Sets Doubles Match:
Jose Gonzales/Kris Srinivasan over Syed Rashid/Mike Sindler, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4, as both teams entered the Doubles Division as the New # 73 and # 74 Ranked Teams respectively! Kris: 1 Ace on Syed in the 1st Set; and Jose: 1 Ace on Syed in the 2nd Set!
After leading in both the sets, we found ourselves struggling to close them out and Mike was especially consistent to take it further. Syed came up with timely attacking shots and ensured a prolonged match.
2 out of 3 Sets Mixed Doubles Match:
Levy Lorenzo/Laura Gawley over Rob Gawley/Doinks Srinivasan, 6-2, 2-6, 6-1, to become the New # 27 Ranked Team in the Mixed Doubles Division! No Aces.
This match took about the same time as our match and it ended up going to the deciding 3rd Set. It looked like both teams had their moments of glory. Levy was particularly dogged in putting back the balls that made the difference.
The highlight of the night was the post-night session with "Coach" Dino Celis giving his tennis tips to a captivated audience...:-). Cheers!
Samara's Notes: I thank Kris for hosting up at Cedar Grove and submitting this report in such a timely manner.
Sincerely,
Frank Samara
