“Rizzo-Barbera at NTC, Kris hosts 5 at C.G.!”:

               

GTA Saturday Tennis took place at two locations: The Nutley Tennis Club (featuring a full 2 out of 3 Sets Challenge Match between “The Riz” John Rizzo and “Flyin” Brian Barbera) and then an evening session up at The Cedar Grove Courts (hosted by “Papa K” Kris Srinivasan). 

 

Let’s go to the result from NTC first and then the full recap of C.G. scores from Kris.

 

The NTC Result:

 

2 out of 3 Sets Challenge Match:

Brian Barbera over John Rizzo, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, to become the New # 17 Ranked Player in the Advanced Division!  No Aces.

 

The Skinny: John and Brian had played the first two sets of this match on Thursday night, but then they ran out of daylight.  So then they played just the 3^rd Set on Saturday.  It seemed like a good opportunity for Rizzo to make a successful rank defense as he usually comes out strong in that initial set, but Barbera was able to better weather the higher temperatures and came out on top in this one.  I am fairly sure there will be a rematch in the near future.

The Cedar Grove Results:

 

Doinks Srinivasan/Kathy Sheldon over Sally Pillay/Brenda Jordan, 6-3!  No Aces.

 

Sally Pillay/Brenda Jordan over Doinks Srinivasan/Kathy Sheldon, 6-3!  No Aces.

 

Sally Pillay/Brenda Jordan over Kris Srinivasan/Doinks Srinivasan, 7-6 (7-4)!  No Aces.

 

There was plenty of help in drying the courts (as it had rained earlier in the day) from Dan Martinelli (aka Spin), Jose Gonzales, Sally and Doinks.  If I left out any scores, I apologize.
