4/9/18:
"Mole-Ortega 1-Setters in Wayne, Liu hosts 5 in Nutley!":
THIS JUST IN – Turns out there were two sessions of GTA Monday Tennis: the first one was at The Nellis Drive Courts in Wayne (the courts that surround…either next to or across the street from…The Wayne Bubble) as "Del Brotro" Mike Mole and "Salsa Picante" Edwin Ortega got together for a couple of One-Setters. Edwin sent a text message to "Hollywood" Frank Samara soon after they ended, but since they were in the form of an attachment…the text message came thru as blank to Frank and he soon deleted it.
For future reference, Samara only has a flip phone that can receive simple text messages. It cannot receive anything with photos or attachments. So it is best to either limit it to a simple text or send results via e-mail.
And then the second session was at The Park Ave. Courts in Nutley hosted by "SWAT" Rich Liu (as he had sent the word out to his Meet-Up Group that there would be a session).
We first get some commentary and then the scores from Edwin.
It was nice weather for some afternoon tennis, so Mike Mole responded to my invite. We played at The Wayne Nellis Drive Courts and started hitting at 5:15pm with our official play starting at 5:30. We played two One-Setters until 6:45.
The Nellis Drive Courts Results:
Mike Mole over Edwin Ortega, 7-6 (7-4)! Mike: 1 Ace.
Mike Mole over Edwin Ortega, 6-4! No Aces.
Edwin's Editorial: I was up 3-0 in the first One-Setter, but Mike made it competitive and we ended the set in a Tiebreaker. The second one was almost the same as I was up 3-1, until he leveled it at 4-4 and then he finished it at 6-4.
Samara's Notes: I thank Edwin for his timely reporting. The delay is my fault entirely.
We now go to the report from Rich.
It was a slightly chilly night (low 40's), but that did not stop five die-hard GTA Tennis enthusiasts from getting together to play some outdoor tennis. Another just watched. The action started around 7:15 and lasted till 10pm under the steady but not so bright lights at Park Ave. The following players showed up and had a great time: Edgar Valencia, Muhammad Haque, Arthur Fontanilla, Kyle Eng, Joe Renga (he just observed as he has a knee issue) along with myself.
This group engaged in some fun Singles and Doubles action with the following results (more or less accurate).
The Park Ave. Courts Results:
First there was some unofficial Singles – solely Tiebreaker action.
Arthur Fontanilla over Rich Liu, (7-3)!
Kyle Eng over Rich Liu, (7-3)!
Muhammad Haque over Kyle Eng, (7-5)!
Kyle Eng over Arthur Fontanilla, (7-3)!
Rich Liu over Muhammad Haque, (7-4)!
There was some Canadian Doubles, too.
Rich Liu over Edgar Valencia, 6-3! Edgar: 2 Aces!
Rich Liu over Edgar Valencia, 7-5! Edgar: 2 Aces!
The Rich Report: It was two very competitive sets! Edgar drop-shot me many times unmercifully! Somehow, I held on to take both sets.
Rich Liu/Kyle Eng over Arthur Fontanilla/Muhammad Haque, 6-0! No Aces.
Rich Liu/Edgar Valencia leading Muhammad Haque/Kyle Eng, 4-3 (Incomplete when the lights went out)! No Aces.
The Rich Report: Muhammad is much-improved. Heard he's had secret training with Maria Sharapova!
Samara's Notes: I thank Rich for his very timely reporting of this session along with the color commentary. It is greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Frank Samara
