10/21 Results.

10/21/17:

"Gawley-Toker at C.G.!":

There were just one session of GTA Saturday Tennis…a late afternoon/early evening one at The Cedar Grove Courts which featured the GTA Women's Championship Match between GTA Women's Champion: Laura "The Aura" Gawley and her Top Contender: "The Argentine Machine" Fernanda Toker (as reported by both).

So let's get the lowdown from both of them now.

The Cedar Grove Result:

GTA Women's Championship Match:

Laura Gawley over Fernanda Toker, 6-3, 6-1, to complete her fifth successful GTA Women's Championship defense of her first reign!  No Aces.

The Lowdown from Laura: We started the match at 5:35 and finished at around 6:50.  Fernanda was super steady, as always!  She really was effective moving me from side to side and she got to everything! We both did a lot of running!  It was a lot of fun! Hopefully, I'll be able to get out of bed on Sunday morning for the Women's Doubles Tournament!

Toker's Take: She is so f'n amazing!  We played for an hour and a half and I had so much fun playing with her.  I called her all different type of bad names and I made her laugh.  We had really long rallies and I had a lot of chances to break her and to hold my serve, but she is so good that I couldn't capitalize on them.  Al least she said that she was so tired that she didn't know if she would be able to get out of bed the next day…so that made me happy.  She had 5 Match Points and I wouldn't give up but, in the end, the best prevailed!

Samara's Notes: I thank both for reporting this result in such a timely manner (along with their commentary as well).  I also congratulate Laura on yet another highly impressive victory over a foe as feisty as Fernanda.  And I think we are seeing a really nice friendly rivalry developing here.  The scores make it seem somewhat lopsided, but I've seen their battles on the court and the rallies they have are anything but that.

I think we all hope to see more of their matches in the future.  And I am sorry I had to miss this one as Fernanda gave me the heads-up and the invite ahead of time, but it was still somewhat short notice so I was busy with my kids at the time.

Sincerely,

Frank Samara
