10/12/17:
"Kumar-Shiao TBC in Wayne, Kris/Spin host 22 (1 return) at C.G.!":
There were two sessions of GTA Thursday Tennis: the first was a daytime one (I think) at the Nellis Drive Courts in Wayne featuring a full 2 out of 3 Sets Challenge Match between "The Webmaster" Senthil Kumar and Tony "Sure Shot" Shiao which will need to be continued at a later date (reported by Senthil) and then the usual evening one at The Cedar Grove Courts which was co-hosted by "The K Man" Kris Srinivasan and "Spin Doctor" Dan Martinelli.
Let's first get the partial result from Senthil and then the balance of the report will be from Kris and Spin along with their commentary.
The Nellis Drive Courts Result:
2 out of 3 Sets Challenge Match:
Tony Shiao leading Senthil Kumar, 6-3, 4-1 (To Be Continued)! No Aces (apparently).
Senthil's Notes: We played from 8:45 to 9:50.
Samara's Notes: Senthil did not specify AM or PM, but I am assuming they played this match in the morning. He also did not note why the match was suddenly stopped, but it was clear that they plan on continuing it at a later date. Nonetheless, I appreciate Senthil keeping me in the loop and sending this to me in such a timely matter.
We now turn this report over to Kris.
It was a busy night with all the courts packed with GTA Tennis players despite the falling temperatures. We saw the return of Chris Lehmann along with some more "Battle of the Sexes" action, one of which included the boisterous duo of GTA Champion: Nathan Fernandes and Dan Martinelli (aka Spin).
Levy Lorenzo was outstanding and exhibited superbly consistent and smart play. On the other side, Fadia Nicolas equally showed her consistency and played some really attractive down-the-line shots. GTA Women's Champion: Laura Gawley was her usual solid self, but was well-challenged by The Levitator. I made our match quite interesting with my errors, such as a mess-up of an easy put-away which would have had us go up 5-3.
Sorry, I now have to wind up the results quickly.
The Cedar Grove Results:
2 out of 3 Sets Doubles Match:
Jose Gonzales/Chris Lehmann over Jordan Bachvaroff/Mike Mole, 6-3, 6-3, as both teams entered the Doubles Division as the New # 90 and # 91 Ranked Teams respectively! It was the official GTA Return of Chris Lehmann. No Aces.
Samara's Notes: Nice to have Chris back in the mix, though I'm not sure if it is for the long haul…or if he was just visiting his original hometown area. We now go back to Kris.
Frank Hohorst/Natalia Sout over Brenda Jordan/Dawn Peterson, 6-4! No Aces.
Nathan Fernandes/Natalia Sout over Frank Hohorst/Dawn Peterson, 6-4! No Aces.
Syed Rashid/Mike Sindler over Arthur Fontanilla/Brenda Jordan, 6-2! No Aces.
Kris Srinivasan/Levy Lorenzo over Jorge Solano/Fadia Nicolas, 6-1! No Aces.
Arthur Fontanilla/Dan Knitzer over Syed Rashid/Mike Sindler, 6-2! No Aces.
Jorge Solano/Rob Gawley over Levy Lorenzo/Fadia Nicolas, 6-3! No Aces.
Rob Gawley/Dan Knitzer over Syed Rashid/Mike Sindler, 6-3! No Aces.
Kris Srinivasan/Laura Gawley over Jordan Bachvaroff/Mike Mole, 6-4! Mike: 1 Ace on Kris; and Laura: 1 Ace on Jordan!
Laura Gawley/Fadia Nicolas leading Kris Srinivasan/Levy Lorenzo, 5-4 (Incomplete when the lights went off at 10pm)! No Aces.
And now we let Spin take over!
2 out of 3 Sets Mixed Doubles Match:
Nathan Fernandes/Natalia Sout over Dan Martinelli/Doinks Srinivasan, 6-0, 6-0, to successfully defend their # 3 Rank in the Mixed Doubles Division! In the process, Martinelli/Srinivasan entered the division as the New # 47 Ranked Team. No Aces.
Nathan Fernandes/Dan Martinelli leading Doinks Srinivasan/Natalia Sout, 5-2 (Incomplete when the lights going out at 10pm extinguished the laughter as well as the set)! No Aces.
The Spin from Spin: Going into the first two sets (the full Mixed Doubles Match), Doinks and I were getting the cream cheese ready because we knew all too well we just might get served the dreaded double bagel. Those two sets were fun even though we got "cream-cheesed". Towards the end of that 2nd Set of the match, white-washing Nate and Natalia started in with all that high-fiving stuff. Not to be denied (even with points we lost), Doinks and I did the same. The comedy factor then increased exponentially.
After that match, Natalia decided she wanted to do a "Battle of the Sexes" match. Doinks was not nearly as eager...she did not want or desire a third bagel. She was out-voted 3-1 and the One-Setter was on. This incomplete affair can only be described by the following acronyms: OMG, LOL and ROTFLMAO! We played on Court 3. We not only distracted those playing on Court 4, the distractions carried all the way over the fence to Court 2. The point of the season took place about 10 minutes before the lights went out. An extremely high lob was sent over to the ladies team, Doinks and Natalia. Someway, somehow both ladies found themselves on the same side of the court. As the ball descended, they both started what can only be described as the "Dance of The Sugar Plum Fairies" as they moved in and out and to and fro. Nate and I thought they were going to perform one of the greatest returns of all-time. However, when the ball landed on the court with neither lady hitting it back, laughter ensued. Play was suspended for about two minutes with all of laughing our "you-know-whats" off! Natalia actually had to lie down on the court to recover. I, personally, can't remember having so much for two straight hours on the tennis courts. Great people, great stuff!!!
Samara's Notes: I thank Spin for that very entertaining write-up. We now go back to Kris for the last word about the session.
Overall, it was a busy night of non-stop GTA action. Cheers!
Samara's Notes: I thank both Kris and Spin for submitting these results in such a timely manner and I, as always, appreciate their colorful and comprehensive commentary.
Sincerely,
Frank Samara
